Yes, Flu Season is a Thing.

With flu season right around the corner, U.S. health officials are urging everyone to get their flu shot now so they'll be protected from the potentially serious complications of influenza. Yavapai County Community Health Services has received their shipments of the ’17-’18 flu vaccine – and they are ready to schedule appointments now. The flu season for 2017-2018 is expected to run from October 2017 through May 2018 with the peak four-month period being December through March. 

Once again, YCCHS has scheduled flu clinics in rural areas of the County.

RECALL: San Francisco Seafood Salad made with Greek Yogurt

Simply Fresh Foods, Inc. of Buena Park, CA is recalling 272 cases of one specific lot of its 4-4 ounce packages of "San Francisco Seafood Salad Made with Greek Yogurt" bearing a UPC bar code of 47502 19701 because the individual cups inside the carton may be mislabeled as Seafood Salad with Real Mayonnaise and does not declare "milk". The outer carton is correct and has the correct ingredient statement which declares "milk". People who have allergies to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product. Read more

Garden of Life LLC Issues Recall of Baby Organic Liquid Formula

Yesterday, Garden of Life, LLC, issued a voluntary precautionary recall of its new supplement for infants, Baby Organic Liquid, because the product, as labeled, includes directions for use that may be misinterpreted. The company is concerned that if not administered precisely following the labeled instructions, the product may present difficulties in swallowing and potentially pose a choking hazard due to the thickness of the liquid.

OPA by Litehouse Ranch Dressing Recalled

Litehouse Inc. is voluntarily recalling a limited quantity of its OPA by Litehouse Ranch because it may contain undeclared eggs. The Food and Drug Administration has been made aware of this recall which is limited to one production day from a single manufacturing location. Read more

Yavapai County WIC Awarded for Outstanding Breastfeeding Support

Yavapai County WIC is one of six Agencies in the United States and U.S. Territories to be awarded the Gold Premier Award from Loving Support©. Yavapai County Community Health Services was the only agency in Arizona to qualify for this award, along with agencies in California, Washington and Idaho. Loving Support© Makes Breastfeeding Work is the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) national breastfeeding promotion and support campaign. Education, training and outreach materials are provided for staff of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). Read more

WITH MONSOON SEASON UPON US – PROTECT YOURSELF AGAINST MOSQUITOS
As our monsoon season approaches it is important to understand the risks we face from diseases mosquitoes carry like Zika, West Nile virus, Chikungunya, Dengue and Yellow fever and what you can do to prevent them. Arizona is home to about 50 mosquito species including Aedes aegypti, a mosquito that can carry and spread diseases like the Zika virus. This mosquito is well-adapted to the Arizona climate.

Beaver Creek School Awarded Top Honor by Yavapai Healthy Schools

On May 25th, the Yavapai Healthy School (YHS) partnership presented their top honor of Yavapai Healthy School of-the-year to Beaver Creek School District.  Micca Martinez, Special Programs and Wellness Coordinator of Beaver Creek School District was on hand to receive the award.  According to the Yavapai Healthy Schools Partnership Coordinator, and Yavapai County Community Health Services Section Manager Carol Lewis, "Beaver Creek School is being recognized for investing in the health and wellness of the school community and always going the extra mile for their students."
